I got an e-mail from our Guild president.  A nursing home was asking for 100 quilts by Thanksgiving!  

Fortunately, our Comfort Quilters group already had 50 made that they could donate right away, but we 

still need another 50 to meet the nursing home's request.  I have committed to at least one quilt (since I 

work full time, have a dog, and like to sleep).  I was able to use some 2.5" strips from a strip exchange 

led by Little Bunny Quilts on Flckr.  

This is from Cluck Cluck Sew's Strip and Flip Baby Quilt tutorial.  So super easy, and would make a great 

Jelly Roll Race!  The sun really washed out the light pink and light green fabrics.  They are pretty and feminine.

I should be finishing this one up in time for the next Guild meeting - just need a back!

Fall Festival Giveaway - Entering the Fray!

I've been fortunate lately to win a couple of giveaways, and I wanted to keep passing it on!  My giveaway consists of:

Blue is my FAVORITE color, so it's odd that you're only getting one blue.  Well, maybe not since all my blues are smaller than FQ size from being used!

October Bee Weekend & HST Tutorial Link

HST & Charm Square Winners

Congratulations! My extras will be in your hands soon, and it's your time to create!  I wanted to give you a little insight into how I used the charm squares (and stash, let's be honest, here!) to create the HSTs.  I followed this post (which I had pinned even before winning the giveaway over at Renewing Mrs. Sew & Sew):

HST Tutorial

The HSTs I received from the giveaway were 2.5" unfinished.  To use the above method, you need 4.25" (four and a quarter-inch) squares; this is a bit bigger than you need, but I wanted that little bit extras so that I could trim them down using the Tucker Trimmer ruler.  The 4.25" is quite a bit smaller than a charm square which is where using my stash came in handy.  I'd cut 4.25" squares from my stash and mix-n-match with the charm squares.  That way, when I sewed a quarter-inch seam all around the 4.25" square, I could trim off the excess on the charm square and have a few scraps to add to my scrap bins.

Bee Weekend

The second weekend of the month is now my quilting bee weekend.  I have a bee meeting on Saturday and another on Sunday.  It's nice that I don't have to unload the car between bees!

This is mine!  

My quilt  is based off of the pattern "Scrapper's Delight" from Sunday Morning Quilts by Amanda Jean Nyberg and Cheryl Arkinson. The border is my own invention; I wanted to contrast the color blocks with black, white, and grey (with little hints of color).  

I plan to finish it for the West Houston Quilt Guild's string quilt challenge for their 2015 quilt show: Quilted Roads of Texas.

Back in May, I won some HSTs and charm squares from Michelle of Renewing Mrs Sew & Sew.  Michelle had created a heart quilt of HSTs and gave away some extras.  I was very lucky to win!  In July, I went on a quilting retreat at Red Barn in Coldspring, Texas.  The ladies there helped me come up with this configuration.  

Last month at bee, I pieced the back.

I used some large pieces I found in the LQS scrap bin, and some pearl bracelet fabric that I got from Massdrop.

And I finished the simple (and so easy) quilting today.

Now I have some leftovers:
