Baby and Bee plus T-shirt Quilt Finish!

At a work baby shower, there was some fun and beautiful food that I just had to share!

 Lovely white cake with a caramel layer that was AMAZING!

 Cute watermelon fruit pig? made by a coworker.

She also made this cute basket of diaper babies!  

Roll up the diaper, put a sock on one side and a washcloth on the other and draw on eyes with a Sharpie!

Jennifer's Cat Quilt.  This one is going to a local nursing home.  I'll bet there's a cat lover there just ready for this one!

 The quilting really shows of the Bargello look.

Here are some of Barb's fun EPP hexagon blocks.  She's using shot cottons for the center and the Hoffman Fabrics Skyline for the outer hexagons.  These are fantastic, and I can't wait to see it all put together!

Lillie is still piecing the Latimer Farms blocks.  This is a NEW block-of-the-month from Red Crinoline Quilts and Paula Barnes.  Find it at your local quilt shop or favorite online shop!

Work Buddy

A lady at work - Cecilia - quilts and she had two that she wanted to gift to a local nursing home.  The West Houston Quilter's Guild donates quilts to local nursing homes and Project Linus.  So, I'm taking these to guild meeting tomorrow to donate!  Thanks, Cecilia!

 

T-Shirt Quilt

I finally finished the t-shirt quilt for a co-worker.  I spent a lot of time avoiding quilting it, but I really surprised myself by how well it went!  There were a few snags, but overall, I think the FMQ experience was a positive one.

 

Ta-da!

 

I used the square spirals a lot.  It covered territory and is masculine.

 

 The sashing is just a big spiral that reverses back-and-forth as it travels down the sashing.

I also had fun outlining the jersey numbers.  I did it FMQ with polyester thread.  It glides so well!

And that, my friends, is a LOT of pictures, but you know I'm all about that.

Running up to the end

I've been able to complete quite a few quilts in anticipation of the holiday season.  I am ready for Christmas and will have more quilts and projects to share as they are given to their recipients!  I'm sharing one here since I know that my sister doesn't read my blog!  This is the blue quilt I made for her.

It's a giant trip around the world quilt!

 This one was quilted by my longarmer friend Lillie.  I love the quilting pattern with this quilt!

This print on the back was the inspiration.  It is from Amy Butler's Organic Soul line.

 

I ran out of enough to do the back and binding, so I put a strip of light blue on the back.  The quilting really shows up prettily here!

 

Also, I'm going to a baby shower at work on Friday for a baby boy.  I fortunately have this quilt completed from the jelly roll stash I acquired earlier this year.

 

This is the 3 Dude's jelly roll pattern.  Don't try it unless you don't mind not being accurate.  The way it's cut, it creates lots of bias edges.  THEN the way it's pieced, there's no good way to press to eliminate bulk (at least that I could figure out!)
But it is easy, quick, and fun!  Just not a pattern you should be picky about piecing, is all.

  Straight-line quilting with 30-weight thread.  This one is so busy that I wanted to keep the quilting simple and sparse.  I think I finished quilting it in under 30 minutes!  I quilted from edge to edge so there was no need to tie off threads either!  WOOHOO!

This is the back.  I also caught a little bit of my finger in this photo.  OUCH! ;)

The zig-zag fabric is Dear Stella (and it made a gorgeous binding when I cut it on the bias!).  The front and main back are Boathouse by Sweetwater for Moda.

Bee Weekends, Covered in Love, and bye-bye Stash Bee 2015

Y'all Thanksgiving is comin' up fast, and for that matter, so is Christmas!  You can really tell when folks are finishing quilts and working on Christmas gifts.  Unfortunately, the Christmas gift I was working on is for my mom, so I'm not posting it here until after Christmas!

Karen's Bargello quilt

This was a kit, and Karen has worked on it most of the year and finally finished the top!

This is Maria's civil war quilt using scrap from Barb's quilt, which won a ribbon in the West Houston Quilter's Guild 2015 show.  Maria wanted it bright, and boy, is it!  I love the bright civil war fabrics!

Jeannie finished her Strip-n-Flip quilt by quilting each row with a different stitch!

This will be donated at Guilt meeting on Wednesday to our Comfort Quilters, who provide quilts for nursing homes and Project Linus.

Karen's Sunburnt Zebra quilt was quilted by bee member Lillie.  Love those flames!  This is another donation quilt.

Jennifer is piecing a fun sawtooth star variation quilt with CATS!  The low volume fabric here is SO cute with cat outlines.  I wish I had gotten a close-up pic!  

Yayas Bee

I continue to stay terrible at taking pics at Yayas.  I'm not sure why I'm on top of it at one bee and not the other.  There are similar projects and four of us are in both bees (hey, we really like each other!)  Anyway, the only thing I took pics of was Lillie's piecing for the store (Quilt 'n Sew) sample for the NEW 2016 Block of the Month from Red Crinoline Quilts.

This one has a lot less of the triangle paper than the previous RCQ BOM that Lillie pieced: Hampton Ridge.  You just really have to like sashing your blocks!

So, I may have used some questionable fabrics for the backgrounds, but hey, I'm keeping it interesting and different!  A little Route 66, a little Curious Nature.  This is a GREAT scrap block!  Thanks again, Kat!

Houston IQF 2015: Post 3 - Old or New?

One of the exhibits at this year's International Quilt Festival in Houston was "40 Years of Moda".  In this exhibit they showed the antique quilts that were their inspiration for Moda's Collections for a Cause.  Can you tell which is the antique and which is the reproduction?  Answers at the bottom of this post!

This is a diamond-pattern quilt called "Community."  I was amazed by how closely the reproductions resembled the original fabrics!

I usually don't care for the clothing exhibit at IQF, but this year there were two fashions that I loved and would wear in a second (though for what occasion, I am currently stumped!)

This is "Snow White and Rose Red" by Diane Herbort.  Can't you see this being worn during the Edwardian period of Downton Abbey?  This is totally a Lady Sybil outfit!

This is "Venus on the Half Shell: Day Two" by Van Horn.  An Oscar-worthy dress if I've ever seen one.  Which celeb would wear it best?  I think it would look amazing on Nicole Kidman with her auburn hair!

The window valance (?) on display in the back is "High Tide" by Diane Ricks.
