Charity Quilt and a Couple Flimsies

Here is a charity quilt that I finished:

The West Houston Quilter's Guild has a Comfort Bee that makes kits from donated fabrics.  You just sign one out, make the top (you can turn it in at this point, but why not practice some FMQ?), then layer, baste, quilt, and bind!  The patterns are approximately 42" wide, so you don't have to piece the back either. 

 

I also put together a quilt top (flimsy) from the bow tie blocks I received in Fun with Barb's block exchange last fall.  I chose the modern fabrics blocks, and they made a great rainbow quilt!

 

 

I also pieced these blocks from scraps last fall, and just put them together over the holidays.

I love the trellis pattern that emerges even though it's very scrappy.

(Oops, just noticed that the bottom row, third from the right is turned wrong!  Will fix!)

 

These will most likely turn into donations quilts, too!

 

Did you get a lot of sewing done over the holidays or did you just chill?

Christmas Finish!

I can finally reveal my piece de resistance....[drum roll]...

TA DA!

This was gifted to my dad on Christmas Day.  I grew up in Alabama, and y'all know that you're for Alabama or you're for Auburn or you ain't from there!

I bought a kit at Festival with the embroidered blocks.  The directions were to make a 9-patch with the red and white fabric, but I had to make some fun blocks instead!  The center propeller block is a nod to when my dad owned and flew a Cessna. 

 

Here's the back.  You can see the quilting on the blocks a bit better.  My sister is the quilt holder here and she's 5-foot tall, so she did a great job for her!

 

I also made this paper-pieced block, framed and embroidered it for the label.  I just had to put a Baylor Bear label on the Alabama quilt.  It is a joke in my hometown that my dad's a Bama fan but wears a Baylor shirt and hat around town as a nod to my alma mater (and also so he stays out of the Alabama-Auburn controversy as much as possible!)
