First I had to leave home and this sweet little dog with the pet sitter:

 

Her yellow bear has been in surgery many times, but to date has only lost an ear!

 

A great long weekend of energetic quilting & sewing, good food, and awesome friends!  Here's what everyone was working on:

 

My puzzle quilt - the challege was to take one yard of military fabric (Army, here) and make it into a quilt top.  I fussy cut, then added frames in complementary colors.  The print here is a star batik.  I just measured the height of the tallest block in each row, then started adding fabric to the top or bottom of each framed block.  After I had my row heights the same across each row, I measured the longest row, then added fabric on the sides of blocks.  Then I just sewed all the rows together!

 

Isn't this beautiful!  Sandy had the colored blocks on point put together and added the setting blocks.  I hope I get to see how she quilts it!

 

 

Lillie finished this cute mini quilt (which she has a stand for at home).  The embroidery was done, but she pieced it all together in a quilt-as-you-go method.  This will be in the West Houston Quilt Guild Quilt Show on March 6 & 7 in Cypress, Texas.

This is my Puppy Park by Riley Blake quilt top.  Some of the blocks were from a bee exchange, and some I made.  I got the sashing on, with cornerstones as recommended by all present.  I want to do another thin border (dark red?), then a thick border of some of this Puppy Park fabric:

The inside and double-fold bias tape (made it myself!) are remnants from Joann's. 

I love that cast-offs can be remade into something quite fine!

Panels are prints of historic photographs of the town.

The background fabric is clocks!

This is some seriously crazy tiny flying geese. 

Perfect because of a Bloc Loc Ruler (almost invisible on top of the little geese on the far right). 

The block finishes at about 3 inches, I think!

Mary embraced her "pink" side to create this quilt for a friend.

This pattern uses the "X" ruler.

Another Mary was playing with a Sunnyside by Kate Spain layer cake and some fat quarters for sashing.

Lynn's wall hanging is ready just in time!

 





 

This was dessert on Saturday, Valentine's Day.  I did mention good food earlier, right?

 

There was more that I probably didn't capture, but I tried to scan the design walls and take a snap when I saw something new.  If you can ever get down to Central Texas, schedule a retreat at The Compass Centre - it's worth it!

Bee Weekend - Thimblelinas in February

Let's get to the pictures!

 

Maria has finished all of her paper pieced courthouse steps in saturated civil war colors. 

 

Barb has made this fun charity quilt, and we helped her decide to do an alternating color border (on the right) instead of just one color. 

 

Barb also finished the top of her Strip n' Flip quilt.  Also for charity.

She finished a Jelly Roll Jam 2 pattern with these beautiful batiks! 

Lastly, she made one more charity quilt, backed with fleece.  So cuddly!

 

Lilly has finally finished her bear baby quilt!  Yay, this one had so many pieces.

 

Lillie has also practiced with some new circle templates on her longarm to make this Texas flower-themed table runner.  It will be part of the silent auction at our upcoming Guild quilt show, along with 9 other seasonally themed table runners.  That include's Marion's:

Here is one of three blocks that will go into a GORGEOUS table runner!  I'm not a table runner person, but I may have to bid on the set!

 

Marion also finished her jelly roll quilt and is auditioning borders there on the right.  The group suggested navy to make the inner border and all the blocks pop!

I finished a presentation case for the bee's Quilt of Valor quilt.  I used a left-over block from the top and incorporated it into the main body.  I chose patriotic star fabric from Karen's stash to make the accent and cuff.

Here is my leader/ender quilt County Fair with a pieced border.  Do I stop there and just quilt it?

Possible binding fabric on right.

 

OR do I add another white border?

Too much white = too much area to get dirty right?

 

Next month will be retreat, so I'll get lots of great photos there (possibly of yummy food, too!).
